Background

Founded in 1928, Bäckerei papperts GmbH (known under the Pappert brand) from Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) in eastern Hesse is a family business with tradition, currently run by the seventh generation of bakers. Pappert has grown steadily over the years, offering new modern concepts through its sub-brands - from classic rolls to Italian pizza and ice cream. The company employs around 1,900 people and supplies more than 140 specialty stores, not only in Hesse but also in Bavaria and Thuringia.

Challenge

Pappert has constantly modernized its bakeries over the years and expanded the range of products for its customers. Whether for lunch or an afternoon coffee, Pappert invites you to linger. As a result, the demands of customers and employees for stable and fast WLAN are increasing, whether for private use or for working in the café. Customers also expect cashless payments: Even small amounts such as coffee can be paid by card. To meet these customer requirements, a high-performance and stable network is key. Since not all stores are equipped in the same way and therefore have different requirements, it was important that the new WLAN infrastructure meet all needs.

The previous IT infrastructure was no longer state-of-the-art and no longer met all the requirements of Pappert's modern bakery branches. The aim was therefore to renew the infrastructure and replace the previous hardware.

Solution

An IT service provider conducted an inventory analysis at Pappert and recommended various Huawei products that matched the requirements. The L24P4S-A1 switch from the CloudEngine S5735 series met the needs of all the stores: The switches connect a wide variety of third-party devices used in the contactless payment system, for example, and can also be used to control internal processes at the bakery. By connecting the switches, they create mutual backups, which improves the reliability of the network.

Advantages

The biggest advantage of Huawei, in addition to the extensive coverage of all the requirements of the branches, is in particular the rapid delivery capability. Huawei can deliver within two weeks - compared to the previously used network components of the competitor company with a delivery time of 350 days - which is why the project could be implemented directly.
